Copper Electric wires kitchen and bathroom remodels across Essex, Morris, Sussex, Bergen and Union counties: circuits, countertop outlets, GFCI, lighting and speaker wire, licensed, insured and bonded under NJ #19255.

A kitchen needs at least two 20 amp countertop circuits and a bathroom wants its own 20 amp circuit. Planning that before the drywall goes up is the cheap way to do it.

The code asks for two or more 20 amp circuits for kitchen counters and at least one 20 amp circuit for bathroom outlets. A remodel usually adds a microwave, a dishwasher, under-cabinet lights and new pendants on top of that. While the walls are open, Steven runs the circuits, the lighting and any speaker or audio wire you want in the room, so nothing gets cut back into finished walls later.

Plan with the layout, rough it in, pass inspection, then finish.

  1. Plan with the layout

Send the plan or a few photos, and Steven works out the circuits, outlets, lighting and any speaker runs around the cabinets and fixtures.

  2. Rough-in while it's open

Boxes, circuits and low-voltage wire go in before the walls close, and the town's electrical inspector checks the rough wiring.

  3. Finish and test

Outlets, GFCI protection, switches and fixtures go in after the walls and cabinets, and everything is tested before final inspection.

Remodel questions

Every question here is one people actually ask online, and each answer links to the page it was asked or answered on.

Can I add extra outlets and circuits to a kitchen or bathroom?

Yes, within what the code allows for each room. A kitchen has to keep its countertop outlets on two or more 20 amp small-appliance circuits, extra dedicated circuits can be added for things like a microwave or refrigerator, and a bathroom's outlets sit on their own 20 amp circuit. Adding circuits is permitted work, so a licensed electrician plans and files it.

How many circuits does a kitchen need?

At least two 20 amp circuits for the countertop and wall outlets, which can't power anything outside the kitchen and dining areas, and extra dedicated circuits can be added for appliances like a microwave or refrigerator. The exact count depends on the appliances and the layout.

What kind of speaker wire can go inside the walls?

Wire rated for in-wall use, labeled CL2 or CL3, not ordinary speaker cable. It should also stay clear of the house wiring, ideally about a foot away and not running alongside it for long stretches, and a remodel with open walls is the easiest time to run it.
